Participation at 16th European Diatom Meeting (6-10 July 2026)
The 16th European Diatom Meeting (EDM2026) was held in Murcia, Spain, from 6 to 10 July 2026, bringing together researchers from across Europe and beyond to discuss the latest advances in diatom research. The conference covered a wide range of topics, including diatom taxonomy, ecology, evolution, molecular approaches, biomonitoring, and the application of new technologies in aquatic ecosystem research, while providing an excellent platform for scientific exchange and international collaboration.
Project results generated within the BIOLAWEB project were presented by PhD student Ljubica Vlaović and Dr Danijela Vidaković through oral and poster presentations.
Ljubica Vlaović delivered an oral presentation entitled "Seasonal dynamics of benthic diatom communities in saline lakes: a metabarcoding and microscopy approach," highlighting the integration of DNA metabarcoding and traditional microscopy to investigate seasonal changes in benthic diatom communities inhabiting saline lakes.
Dr Danijela Vidaković presented the poster "Diatoma species from saline habitats (Vojvodina Region, Serbia)," showcasing research on the diversity and distribution of Diatoma species in Serbian saline ecosystems.
Participation in EDM2026 provided an excellent opportunity to disseminate BIOLAWEB project results, exchange knowledge with leading experts in the field, and establish new scientific collaborations within the international diatom research community.
