Participation at Humboldt Kolleg 2026 (20-23 October 2026)
As part of Humboldt Kolleg 2026, held in Belgrade from 20 to 23 October 2026, PhD student Ljubica Vlaović presented research results from the BIOLAWEB project.
Her poster presentation, entitled “Diatom communities in freshwater lake in Serbia using DNA metabarcoding”, addressed the application of DNA metabarcoding for investigating diatom communities in Serbian freshwater lakes.
The research contributes to a better understanding of freshwater diatom diversity and explores the potential of molecular approaches for biodiversity assessment and ecological status monitoring. By applying DNA metabarcoding, the study supports the development and evaluation of innovative tools that can complement traditional morphology-based approaches in freshwater biomonitoring.
The presentation offered an opportunity to share BIOLAWEB research activities and findings with the international scientific community, fostering scientific exchange and strengthening cooperation in freshwater biodiversity research.
